Summer loving, had me a blastâĻ
So for this edition I wanted to include a photo that I took that I personally felt was beautiful and very representative of the vibrance of the city. I just happened to be walking by and something about not only the visual but also the scene that was happening on a random weekday late night was so inspiring to me.
Artistic Statement
This is a photo that was taken on June 12th, 2026 right at the footsteps of Lincoln Center at around 9:00 PM.
The evening was part of the popular âSummer in the Cityâ program, (formerly Lincoln Center Out of Doors (LCOOD) which ended in 2019). Through its many evolutions this program has always been one of the sustained epicenters for culture in NYC during the summer months. This latest evolution, which launched in 2022, is a Lincoln Center campus-wide initiative and is ambitious in its scope to get every entity affiliated with Lincoln Center involved.
I remember experiencing this programming from the very first year that I moved into the city and have experienced it every year since. Genius curator Bill Bragin, who oversaw the much of LCOOD over the years, passed it on to his prodigious right-hand, Shanta Thake, who continues to steward the evolution of LCOOD into the brilliance of Summer in the City, which offers such a variety of amazing free programming for New Yorkers far and wide.
If you have any amazing photos youâve taken or that youâve come across, that you think are simply incredible representations of community and culture in NYC, please send them my way [email protected] (when sending, please include photo credit as well as the location in NYC where this was taken and when as well as a brief description no more than a paragraph long of whatâs happening in the photo and why it inspires you.)

Strolling down memory laneâĻ
In a city where everyone seems to be rushing somewhere, a new community presents the opportunity to saunter, stroll and stride your way across New York City and make walking itself the destination while transforming an everyday activity into a social experience.
Founded by âSofia the Walkerâ as sheâs affectionately known as, Apex Pedestrian gather at a neighborhood cafÊ, waterfront, or park before setting off on routes that wind through some of New York's overlooked and surprisingly beautiful corners. Moving at a âNew York pedestrian pace", the journey includes a stop for bagels, coffee, or a favorite local bakery all the while it gave you a connection, conversation the whole way through.
Apex Pedestrian is especially compelling specifically because it reframes exploration. How many of us spend years living in NYC without truly seeing it?  We fall into routines, traveling between home and work while entire neighborhoods remain unexplored. Apex Pedestrian encourages participants to become curious in our own city again, slowing down just enough to notice the architecture, discover a hidden cafÊ, admire a waterfront view, or simply appreciate a block they've passed a hundred times without really actually noticing.
Run clubs are a plentyâĻbut Walk clubsâĻless so. The accessibility is really appealing because anyone can participate.
Cities are built for pedestrians, yet we often experience them as commuters. Sidewalks aren't merely corridors between obligations they're where city life happens, much of it hidden from our awareness. Every block simultaneously holds a storied history while also providing the landscape for stories yet to be told.
Perhaps that's why the idea resonates so deeply. Walking is one of the oldest human activities, but in a fast-moving city, it has become easy to forget its quiet power. Apex Pedestrian demonstrates that sometimes the best way to discover New York isn't by finding somewhere new to go, it's by finding new people to walk there with.
